The Origin Story of Alexi Art Shop

The Origin Story of Alexi Art Shop

Welcome to Alexi Art Shop's blog. We hope through these periodic postings, you'll get to know us a little better and see some of the reasons behind the designs and products we create. Efharisto (thank you) for reading!

What sparked the idea for Alexi Art Shop?

Have you ever wandered through Greek Festivals or browsed online stores, searching for the perfect Greek-themed item to rep your heritage – only to come up empty-handed? Well, that's exactly what happened to us. Frustrated by the lack of unique Greek products, we decided to take matters into our own hands and create a line of everyday items with clever Greek sayings and cool art that we would use ourselves.

Furthermore, we've been wanting to do this for a while and the right time just presented itself.

What were the first designs created?

We wanted to capture the essence of our upbringing, and great childhood memories, so our first products were a collection of four posters featuring famous Greek sayings that translate terribly into English. :)

These were sayings our mom used to tell us (threaten us with) constantly during our younger years, and they include:

  1. Tha Fas Ksilo (translates to You Will Eat Wood– but means You're in Trouble/You're Going to Get a Beating
  2. Ta Matia Sou Dekatessera (translates to Your Eyes Fourteen– but means Keep Your Eyes Open/Be Aware of Your Surroundings
  3. Katse Sta Avga Sou (translates to Sit on Your Eggs) – but means Stay Put or Don't Get Involved
  4. Ton Kako Sou Ton Kero (translates to Your Bad Weather) – but means You're Out of Your Mind or No Way that is Going to Happen

Which products have these designs?

As of today (April 11, 2024), you can find these Greek Sayings designs as posters, ceramic coffee mugs, stainless steel travel mugs, tote bags, mouse pads, coasters and t-shirts.

We're constantly adding more designs and more items so please check back often. See some of our items HERE!
