Making the Perfect Greek Frappe - A Quick Tutorial
Who doesn't love an iced Greek Nescafe Frappe? This cold refreshing coffee drink is enjoyed by millions of Greeks and tourists alike and is best when sipped slowly over great conversation. It's surprisingly easy to make, so please enjoy this quick tutorial.
NO FANCY BARISTA DEGREE REQUIRED!
INGREDIENTS:
- Frappe instant coffee (we suggest Nescafe Classic Instant Greek Coffee)
- Sugar/sweetener (we suggest Sugar in the Raw)
- Milk/creamer
- Cold filtered water
- Ice cubes
You'll also need a good drink mixer. We suggest the Hamilton Beach Electric Drink Mixer.
FRAPPE CHOICES:
As you practice making your frappe, you can play with the ratios of coffee and sweetener you prefer, but these are the most common choices:
- "Gliko" or sweet: extra sugar (3 to 4 tablespoons)
- "Metrio" or medium: medium sugar (1.5 to 2 tablespoons)
- "Sketo" or plain: no sugar
If it's your first time making a frappe, we suggest a 1:1 ratio, meaning equal parts instant coffee and sweetener. Our preference is "metrio", about 1.5 to 2 tablespoons of Nescafe Classic Instant Greek Coffee and 1.5 to 2 tablespoons of sugar in the raw.
READY TO MIX:
- Step 1: Add 1.5 to 2 tablespoons of Nescafe Classic Instant Greek Coffee to a tall 16oz pint glass
- Step 2: Add your desired amount of sweetener
- Step 3: Add 2 to 3 fingers of filtered cold water and then blend/mix
- Step 4: Add ice cubes
- Step 5: Add a splash of milk or other creamer
- Step 6: Stir slightly with straw
- Step 7: Let the foam settle and then enjoy!
